From the mouths of babes – May 2019

From the mouths of babes is my monthly post capturing some of the things my children say. It originally started as a weekly linky but as this gradually fizzled out, I stopped recording those little sayings and found I missed it. One of the things that I love about my blog is that it has captured so many little moments that I might otherwise have forgotten about. This little round-up is my way of capturing some more of them.

Sophie says…

The memorial at Jessica’s forever bed includes a beautiful carved sculpture of Jessica holding her Kerry. This has caused a little confusion for Sophie when it comes to looking at other memorials with carved objects.

“Look, Mummy! That’s where a unicorn is buried!”

“There’s an owl buried over there, Mummy.”

Sophie on Daddy

Sophie: “I love you Daddy. You’re like a bus!”

Hubby: “Why I am like a bus?”

Sophie: “Because you’re lying down like a bus and the covers [on our bed] are like the wheels. The wheels on the bus go round and round…”

“I do love you Daddy, but I love Mummy the best.”

Sophie on trees

Me singing along to the Into the Woods soundtrack: “The woods are just trees, the trees are just wood…”

Sophie (very seriously): “Actually mummy, the trees are full of life.”

Thomas talks…

Thomas really does like to chatter away now. We’re getting a few more definite sounds – “mum”, “ga-ga” and what sounds a bit like “hooray” and “golly!” No “da-da” as yet though! So lovely to listen to the chatter.

Memories of Jessica

Sophie told me a joke at bedtime the other night. It made me smile because it was Jessica’s favourite joke. She and Sophie used to repeat it over and over in the back of the car and laugh their heads off. This is the joke:

“Knock, knock.”
“Who’s there?”
“Lego.”
“Lego who?”
“Lego sello!”

I have no idea why it was so funny to Jessica, but this joke will always have a special place in my heart.

  1. It’s so lovely to record the things our children say. I have always popped them on Facebook and now years later they pop back up in my memories. I love that photo of Jessica in your badge and it shows just how much Sophie looks like her sister. And I can’t believe that Thomas is babbling already!
