Friday Focus 24/07/2026 – Summer

The summer holidays are here and we’re enjoying the break from term-time routines and not having to get up quite as early.

This summer we’ll be staying close to home due to Sophie performing in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang throughout the summer but we’ll be enjoying a mix of days out, planned activities and chilled out time at home. Sophie and Thomas have come up with their summer activities plan and we’ll see if we can tick them all off over the next six weeks.

Our summer activities list

Sophie enjoyed having a couple of days being able to have time with me before Thomas finished school on Tuesday. We had a shopping trip to prepare for Thomas’s birthday party (she’s enjoying helping with the planning for that) and some time visiting Jessica. It was lovely having her with me on the school run and seeing her and Thomas walking along together holding hands.

Thomas was sad to say goodbye to a couple of his teachers on the last day. On the whole, his first year at junior school has been a good one. We’ve been very happy with the amount of support he has had and seeing how happy he has been at the school. He’s been very excited this week that his birthday is coming up and has been counting down the days.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

The last page of Thomas's Colorball comic; Thomas feeding sheep at the summer fete; Thomas's drawing of Dogman; Sophie's Hello Kitty crocs; blackberries; Thomas driving a Lego City Driving School car at Legoland; Thomas feeding ducks - "#365daysofgratitude 2026 - Week 29"

  • Day 198 – I am grateful for Thomas’s joy at completing his Colorball comic book – all 166 pages of it.

  • Day 199 – I am grateful for an afternoon at a summer fete enjoying the sunshine and getting to feed some animals.

  • Day 200 – I am grateful that Thomas is enjoying reading Sophie’s Dogman books and learning how to draw some of the characters.

  • Day 201 – I am grateful that Sophie was very happy with her new crocs.

  • Day 202 – I am grateful for blackberries.

  • Day 203 – I am grateful for a day out at Legoland to start the summer holidays.

  • Day 204 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed feeding the ducks at the Nature Discovery Centre while Sophie was performing in Chitty.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • A lovely school report for Thomas.

  • Sophie helping out with mowing Grandma and Grandad’s lawn to earn some extra pocket money over the summer.

  • Sophie’s new rainbow sandals.

  • Catching up with one of Sophie’s primary school teachers and a couple of am-dram friends who came to see her perform in Chitty.
