This week has seen the end of show week 1 with Into the Woods and then on to show week 2 with Doctor Dolittle. It’s been crazy and full-on doing two shows back-to-back but a lot of fun too.

There were a few hiccups with the music on opening night but otherwise the shows have been going well. I’ve particularly enjoyed getting to do puppeteering with this show as I’m playing Gub-Gub, the pig, as well as Gertie Blossom. Gub-Gub is definitely in the list of my favourite ever parts to play – it’s been so much fun having to oink and squeal at various moments in the show. There’s one moment in the song ‘The Vegetarian’ where Doctor Dolittle expresses his frustration at his enforced vegetarianism and admits he loves meat and pork in particular – at which point, Gub-Gub gets very upset and squeals very loudly. The band weren’t expecting it when they played for the first time at band call and the squeal stopped the band as they were wondering what on earth the noise was which was quite funny.
It’s also been a joy to be on stage again with Sophie, who is playing Chee-Chee, the chimp. She’s so good in the part, staying completely in character as a chimp the whole time she’s on stage. I love that she properly prepared for the part by watching videos and studying the chimps when we went to Whipsnade Zoo in the summer.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

- Day 289 – I am grateful for a post-show curry.
- Day 290 – I am grateful for an amazing week performing in Into The Woods with Richings Players. What a wonderful experience it has been. Well done everyone.
- Day 291 – I am grateful for band call and the start of show week for Doctor Dolittle.
- Day 292 – I am grateful for memories of my lovely dad. Today would have been his 93rd birthday. Always remembered, loved and missed.
- Day 293 – I am grateful for an encouraging update on how Thomas is getting on at school at parent’s evening.
- Day 294 – I am grateful for opening night of Doctor Dolittle and a cosy spot for Jip and Gub-Gub to rest in between scenes.
- Day 295 – I am grateful for getting to be on stage with Sophie again.
