Friday Focus 21/01/22 – Outside

We’ve been enjoying spending more time outside than we would normally do in January. Taking part in the #1000hoursoutside challenge is such a good incentive. It’s also been helped by having had fairly dry weather this week, which definitely makes it a little easier to get outdoors. It’s not so nice when it’s cold and wet! I’ve even managed to sit outside in the garden with my laptop while Thomas played. Thank goodness for a warm coat, hat and fingerless gloves though!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Thomas drawing on a wooden cable reel with chalk; Thomas watching 'Encanto'; Thomas, Sophie and Daddy walking up a hill; a robin on a fat ball bird feeder; me giving blood; Sophie giving Thomas a piggyback; Thomas playing with magnetic letters - "#365daysofgratitude 2022 - Week 3"

  • Day 14 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed his first ‘Tots Go Wild’ session.

  • Day 15 – I am grateful for a family film evening.

  • Day 16 – I am grateful for a sunny afternoon to get out for a walk together.

  • Day 17 – I am grateful for the little robin that was singing away in the garden while Thomas was outside singing to himself as he played in the garden.

  • Day 18 – I am grateful for being able to give blood although the combination of a poor night’s sleep along with giving blood did leave me feeling like I’d been hit by the tired truck all afternoon. Note to self: get an earlier night beforehand in future!

  • Day 19 – I am grateful for the lovely bond that Sophie and Thomas have with each other and how much it reminds me of the beautiful bond Sophie and Jessica shared.

  • Day 20 – I am grateful for Thomas’s love of letters and numbers.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Having some time to go shopping on my own and treating myself to a pair of new shoes.

  • Watching Thomas having fun with the mud kitchen.

  1. We used to get out in all sorts of weather, but as my lot get older they just won’t budge! Thomas looks like he’s having a great time with his mud kitchen though.

    1. I’m sure it will get harder to encourage Sophie and Thomas out as they get older too. I’m trying to make the most of it now while they’re still happy to get out with me.

  2. Nice to have so much lovely time outside and be able to appreciate nature. The birds are definitely increasingly their repertoire at the moment, ready for spring. Seeing the children bond is very special. Enjoy your new shoes! Hope you have a wonderful week. #wotw

    1. Thanks Cheryl. I’ve noticed the birds singing more lately. It’s lovely to sit outside and listen to them.

  3. I wish I could get used to being outside in this type of weather! I literally hibernate for several months per year! I’m happy you and the kids are enjoying it though. It’s no fun being cooped up indoors!

  4. Nice weather is always a bonus when spending time outside, don’t mind the cold so much if it’s sunny. Love Thomas’ mud kitchen 🙂

  5. It’s been such a dry January this last week and looks to be continuing for a bit too. Nice to get outside – I need to do that more really.

  6. I would love to play in a mud kitchen! It’s great to have sunny days in January, it feels like it’s been a really long one this year!

  7. We’re only managing to get outside once or twice a week with our cold temps we’ve been having but the minute it warm up or it looks like the sun is going to make an appearance I talk my youngest into going on a hike with me. It feels to good to get out and get moving!

    1. We’ve not been too bad here weather-wise which has made it easier to get out and about a bit more.

    1. The mud kitchen has been a lot of fun. I’m making the most of the time with Thomas before he starts school!

    1. It was such a lovely moment. I bought some smart black shoes as my old ones were getting very shabby.

    1. It has been cold – I’ve been very thankful for hats and gloves! We were watching Encanto – it’s our new favourite too.

  8. I am the same I much prefer to be outside when the weather is nice! Looks like a lovely sunny walk you had. Well done for giving blood it is not something I can do anymore because of a blood problem I have. But I would if I could. Yay for some time to treat yourself.

  9. Gosh Thomas is growing so quickly, it’s so nice he has such a bond with Sophie, it must’ve been something she learnt from Jessica on how to be the big sister

    1. Sophie does remind me of Jessica in the way she acts as a big sister. They’re both very caring.
