Friday Focus 20/01/2023 – Preoccupied

I’ve been quite preoccupied this week with various things going on that are taking up a fair amount of headspace. Nothing bad, just a couple of curveballs that have come my way this week which I need to think about and process before being able to move forward with them.

The word preoccupied in shades of blue and grey

While I have needed the thinking time, time switching off my busy mind has also been much-needed too this week. Sitting and crafting has helped, as has going to rehearsals, which have now ramped up a bit as we start getting closer to show week. We’ve had a couple of long Sunday rehearsals now and the show is coming together nicely. I’m really enjoying rehearsing a musical again and it’s so good to have time for myself doing something that I love.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Spring flowers in a vase at Jessica's forever bed; Sophie and Thomas snuggling on the sofa; me wearing a dove-print dress; my knitting loom with the beginnings of a pink, purple and blue hat; Sophie wearing a rainbow-coloured hand-knitted hat and scarf and a navy coat; a frosty scene at Langley Park; Thomas's feet in black ballet shoes next to mine in red ballet shoes - "#365daysofgratitude 2022 - Week 3"

  • Day 13 – I am grateful for some time with Jessica. Lovely to see some little green shoots appearing at her forever bed from the bulbs I planted in the autumn.

  • Day 14 – I am grateful for snuggles on the sofa.

  • Day 15 – I am grateful that this lovely Popsy dress was in the sale and arrived yesterday – it was the perfect print to wear for leading this morning’s service at church.

  • Day 16 – I am grateful for activities where I can switch my mind off for a while.

  • Day 17 – I am grateful for warm coats, hats, scarves and gloves.

  • Day 18 – I am grateful for the beauty of a frosty morning.

  • Day 19 – I am grateful that having Mummy joining in with his ballet class meant Thomas was a little more focused.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • One of my church friends bringing Thomas back a ’50 states jigsaw’ from her trip to the US. He loved it although got a bit frustrated because he couldn’t put the states together in alphabetical order!

Sophie and Thomas working on a 'United States of America' jigsaw

  • Seeing beautiful sunrises and realising that the mornings are starting to get lighter earlier now.

  1. I’m glad that you have had time out to focus, it’s hard when life throws curveballs. I love your dress and the sunrise photo is beautiful.

  2. I hope you have managed to get everything straightened out in your head or do soon. It sounds like the crafting is a good help and the rehearsals sound like they’re going well.
Your dress looks gorgeous and what fun to join in the ballet class. x

    1. Thanks Kim, I’m getting there. It has helped to have moments of switching off and the ballet class was fun to join in with.

  3. Good for you giving yourself time to process your new situation. I find a crafting project is a great way to do this. Your new dress is lovely and I’m grateful for hats and gloves this week too. Had to smile at Thomas’s frustration with the states not in alphabetical order. If only life was that straightforward. Glad your rehearsals are going well. Not long now.

    1. Thank you Cheryl. Crafting definitely helps with processing things. No, not long now – four weeks until we’re in the theatre!

  4. Doing things that don’t require too much concentration , that you can just do and not think too much is a really good way to calm a busy mind. I do things like ironing or weeding – when it’s warm enough. Love the sunrise photo 🙂

  5. Love the dress. It’s so nice to see the lighter mornings, and especially the evenings too. I’d quite like to try one of those ‘knitting’ wheel things.

    1. Thank you, Sophie got a knitting loom for her birthday a couple of years ago and I got into it while helping teach her how to use it so ended up getting my own one.

  6. It’s good that you are giving yourself time to get your head around things. I hope that it all gets sorted. When I’m preoccupied I tend to clean a lot!! Crafting and musical rehearsals sound way better. I hope you have a lovely week.

    1. Cleaning a lot is a good way to deal with being preoccupied. I kind of wish that was my way of dealing with it – my house could certainly do with it!

  7. Glad to hear that you could find time for yourself. Music and crafting are better activities for me too when I need time for myself. Beautiful photo of kids. Beautiful sunrise photo too.
Thanks for sharing all these photos with us too. Have a great day!
