Friday Focus 17/08/18 – Catching up with cousins

Sophie has been enjoying spending time with her cousins this week and Thomas got to meet them when Auntie Fizz, Ebony and Erin came to stay for a few days. It was lovely to have them stay but emotional too. The last time they came to stay with us was a few days before Jessica died. She was always so excited about seeing them and used to count the sleeps to their visits. How I missed that excitement from her in the run-up to this visit. We took a trip to GreenAcres the day after they arrived to visit Jessica though.

"Cousins" - this week's word of the week

Sophie had such a wonderful time with her cousins. She insisted on sleeping with Auntie Fizz and Erin each night and we had constant calls for Erin to do things with her throughout the day. Ebony took charge when it came to Thomas. She was happy to change nappies, get him dressed and carry him around in the sling when we went out and about. I suspect that had I not been breastfeeding, I wouldn’t have got any cuddles in myself!

Things that have made me smile this week

  • Taking Thomas out in the pram for the first time and having an afternoon catching up with friends.

  • Getting the baby swing down from the loft and seeing Sophie enjoying it even more than Thomas does!

  • Seeing how much Sophie loves having cuddles with her baby brother and the way he is starting to look at and respond to her.

  • Having Thomas snuggled next to me when using the sling.

  • Thomas meeting his Great-Auntie Marls for the first time.

  • Starting to find out which celebs will be on Strictly this year. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Dr Ranj. Watching Strictly will be very bittersweet for us this year though. The girls adored it. Jessica even insisted on taking my Strictly DVD into hospital with her when she had her last heart surgery. She and Sophie would always try to copy the dances while watching. I will miss watching them dance together this year.

  1. So lovely when cousins get together, my two adore their older cousins. I’m glad Sophie enjoyed spending time with them, though it must have been so painful without Jessica there in the thick of it all, getting excited and enjoying her time with them. It’s so lovely when babies start to respond to their siblings, isn’t it? I remember my son adored looking at his sister, she could always make him smile more than anyone else x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. It was very bittersweet but we did have a lovely time together. I love seeing how Thomas is starting to respond to Sophie. Jessica was always able to get smiles out of Sophie too x

  2. You have such a lovely family Louise, it’s so nice how close you all are. I’m not surprised Ebony took charge with Thomas, he’s adorable. It sounds like Sophie loved having them visit. We had the same baby swing and I swear it was magical, it sent my babies straight off to sleep every time. That video clip of Jessica and Sophie dancing is so cute, such good little dancers x

    1. I love that video clip, such happy memories. The baby swing is brilliant – makes it so much easier to get jobs done around the house!

  3. It looks like you have a willing babysitter Louise! I’m ashamed to say that at 27 I have still never changed a nappy so I take my hat off to her. You can look forward to the days when Thomas is old enough for Sophie to teach him how to dance along to Strictly 🙂 #WotW

    1. I’m very impressed by my nieces’ willingness to change nappies. I love the thought of Sophie and Thomas dancing together – I hope that Thomas will enjoy Strictly as much as his sisters.

  4. Aww! How lovely to have your family stay….It sounds like a fab week!
Those baby swings are amazing! hehehe
We are getting excited for Strictly too….I can’t wait to see Dr Ranj and my teen is rooting for Joe Sugg.

    1. Thanks Kim, that swing has been brilliant for helping give me a few minutes here and there to get things done. I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s celebs on Strictly too 🙂
