It’s been an up-and-down week with some lovely moments of family time and some good news along with a few struggles with various things and challenges to deal with.
We had a lovely weekend spending time with my family and celebrating my niece’s 21st birthday. Thomas had fun running around with one of his cousins and Sophie loved getting to meet her youngest cousin and have cuddles with him. I loved getting to catch up with my family and spend time with my mum and siblings.
Sophie’s been struggling with some changes that have happened recently and is feeling a bit daunted at the moment about starting secondary school later this year. We’ve had some long chats and a lot of cuddles which have helped.
Thomas has had a challenging week at school. I think it’s probably due to readjusting back to our usual routines and hopefully things will feel easier again for him soon. On the good news front though, we finally have a draft EHCP which hopefully will mean he gets the right level of support at school. I’m also quite relieved that it came through before the deadline for submitting his application for junior school.
I had an issue with my blog during the week when I noticed my blog pages kept redirecting to random websites. I thought at first I’d been hacked but thankfully one of my work colleagues who deals with our IT was happy to have a quick look and found the problem was caused by a link in my sidebar so was much easier to fix than anticipated.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 10 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed being back at Boys’ Brigade and had fun making a calendar.
- Day 11 – I am grateful for 21 years of my lovely niece and for getting to celebrate with her on her birthday.
- Day 12 – I am grateful for a cooked breakfast.
- Day 13 – I am grateful for snuggling on the sofa and introducing Sophie to one of my favourite book series.
- Day 14 – I am grateful that we now have a draft EHC plan for Thomas.
- Day 15 – I am grateful for a cuddle and a chat at bedtime.
- Day 16 – I am grateful for a new vase for Jessica’s flowers.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Getting out for walks.
- Finding out that Thomas has passed his ballet exam and Sophie passed her ballet, modern and theatre craft exams with distinction (and the highest scoring mark in each for her dance school).
- Meeting up with a friend for coffee.

It sounds like you all had a lovely time celebrating my niece’s 21st birthday.
Aww! Poor Sophie, sending love and hugs. I am sure with your support she will be fine and I hope Thomas gets the right support at school.
Lovely photos! That breakfast looks so good and well done to the kids with the dancing. x
Starting Secondary school is a big thing but I am sure she will be fine. Well done on getting the EHCP it’s worth the fight and will carry through all his schooling. Your niece’s 21st sounds like it was lovely.
Sending hugs to Sophie, Jake starts secondary school this year too I think we are in for some big emotions.
I saw that a few bloggers were having a problem with a certain badge in their sidebar, glad you managed to get it all sorted.
Well done to Sophie and Thomas on passing their ballet exams and Jessica’s new vase is beautiful.
I hope next week is more ups than downs for you.
Happy birthday to your niece! Starting a secondary school is challenging, it’s a totally complete unknown, and I can sympathise with Sophie for feeling apprehensive.
Big well done to both Sophie and Thomas for passing ballet exams!
Getting EHCP helps on many levels, with getting the right support.
The new vase for Jessica is beautiful.
How nice to celebrate with your niece. Hopefully getting the EHCP will help with Thomas. Yay to the dance exams. Amazing results especially for Sophie. Hope she gets over her worries about secondary. There’s a while to go yet, so hopefully by end of summer term she’ll be ready to move up.
Starting secondary school is so scary but I’m sure that Sophie will be fine. Almost every other child will be feeling the same. I hope she starts to feel more excitement soon. I hope that Thomas’ EHCP helps him. I so wish I’d managed to do my little man’s sooner but his school wouldn’t support me. I had to do it myself and was turned town so I decided to take them to tribunal and they offered me the EHCP the day before the hearing! It’s helped my Little Man so much and he’s happy in his new school. I have the first year review coming up next week. I’m glad you enjoyed your niece’s party. I have a party to go to next month and I’m so scared. I’ll be going alone unless I can persuade one of the kids to come.
Your niece’s party sounds like it was fun. Glad you all enjoyed it. Still staggered that Sophie is about to go to secondary. It is a big change, but I’m sure she’ll be more than ready to jump when the time comes. Well done to Sophie and Thomas for their dance and theatre exams. I love the new vase for Jessica. Such a good choice.
The jitters are common for little ones starting secondary school. It’s good to reassure her that most kids will be feeling this way too. It will seem like such a big move but hopefully, she’ll adjust well and enjoy the experience. So happy for you and Thomas that things are moving in the right direction too. It sounds like you had a fab family time too! Long may it continue!
Getting out for walks is so good for the mind! Sounds like you had a lovely time celebrating your niece’s birthday. Pleased you managed to sort the issue with the banner in your side bar, I noticed it was happening to a lot of bloggers
Well done to Sophie and Thomas with their ballet exam results. That’s a lovely vase for Jessica. is it made from wood? That’s excellent news that Thomas’s EHCP first draft is ready in time for applications for Junior school. Happy 21st birthday to your niece.
Thank you, yes it is a wooden vase. We’re only allowed to have a plain wooden vase and a wooden memorial as it’s a woodland burial ground.
L starts seniors in September too. It’s a big change isn’t it. I feel like we get the school confirmation way too late what takes them until March! Good news on the EHCP front to they are not easy to come by!
Lovely vase for Jessica. I am sat sobbing looking at it. My son has a heart condition, he has regular scans at the moment but who knows how things will develop in the future.
