Things have been somewhat chaotic this week in the LHBL house as we’ve been having some work done on our heating system having discovered a small gas leak last week (eek!). It’s resulted in us having a new boiler installed and the gas pipes being re-routed underneath the floorboards in the upstairs hallway and Sophie’s room. I don’t cope very well with the house being turned upside down so I’ve been very thankful that my husband has been working from home and I’ve generally been able to escape elsewhere while the work has been going on. Thankfully the new boiler and gas pipes have all now been installed and the house is back straight again which is a relief!
The new boiler means that we no longer need the hot water tank in the airing cupboard so this has been removed which means more storage space in the airing cupboard (yay!).
Unsurprisingly, Thomas has been more unsettled this week. We’ve tried to minimise the disruption to him, but there’s still been unusual things going on and changes to his routine from his perspective which has been challenging. Sophie has coped quite well on the whole though.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 66 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day.
- Day 67 – I am grateful for my lovely mum.
- Day 68 – I am grateful for a sunny spring afternoon watching Thomas having fun at the park.
- Day 69 – I am grateful that the rain held off for this morning’s walk.
- Day 70 – I am grateful for a lovely report for Sophie at parents evening.
- Day 71 – I am grateful for blossom.
- Day 72 – I am grateful for an evening with Sophie watching her play football, treating her to a McDonald’s and going to the secondary school open evening to find out more about moving up in September.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Sophie being awarded her bronze BASE award at school. The BASE award is a new scheme that her junior school have recently started, like a younger version of the Duke of Edinburgh award. It focuses on ‘Being Active’, ‘Action in the Community’, ‘Striving for Higher Things’ and ‘Exploring the Arts’. She’s the first person in her school to have completed bronze.
- Having a meeting to plan and read through this year’s Passion play.
- Sophie having a fun day out with her dance school at Move-It.
Joining in with Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.
Oh no! It does sound like a chaotic time. I hate having people in the house doing work. It sounds like it was a big job sorting your heating system.
So sorry that Thomas has struggled with the disruption.
Sophie’s costume for World Book day was fab and well done to her for a great report at school and getting the BASE award! x
I’m with you on having work going on in the house. I just want to hide. Thank goodness you discovered the gas leak. I look at our hot water tank and think about how much more room I could have without it, so I can imagine you are enjoying the new space. Sophie’s BASE award sounds interesting. Well done, Sophie.
It’s so hard on everyone when something like that has to be done, it really does turn everything upside down. You have a nice new boiler now, which is a bonus for all the disruption.
I love reading your daily gratitude list, there really is something to be grateful for every single day.
Well done to Sophie on her achievements this week, she is a superstar.
That’s exactly how we feel when workmen have to come in our home. I find them generally messy too, which I hate. We always say we wish we could book a holiday and be away when they have to do any work, then come back to it all cleaned and ready. You must be chuffed with the new space for storage in the airing cupboards. That happened for us a few years ago too, and that’s where we keep the sewing machines and also suitcases of stuff! lol I hope Thomas gets settled and into his routines again soon.
I find any kind of building work chaotic too, but if it’s necessary then it has to be done. When we had a new boiler in our old house. They didn’t take away our old water tank. I’d have loved the extra space.
Ooh no I am with you on not liking work being done in the house. Glad it’s all sorted now. Well done to Sophie on her Bronze Award.
Good that the boiler stuff is all sorted. It’s always such an effort when work needs to be done. Well done Sophie on her good report and bronze award.
I’m glad you got the boiler sorted, but not a cheap or quick and easy fix. Fab to have some extra storage space, we still have the hot water tank, despite a new boiler 5 years ago, our house won’t cope without one, sadly. No blossom out here yet, the magnolia is just coming into bloom. Lovely to have your mum around to help out. Well done to Sophie and a well deserved treat. Hope Thomas has settled down now all is sorted in the house.
I know how disruptive the work in the house can be, hence we have been postponing quite a few projects. I hate having strangers in the house, and our son doesn’t cope well with any disruption at all, so I sympathise with you.
On the plus side, now you have more storage space, that’s great.
Well done to Sophie!
