The Friday Focus – 05/02/16

This week has seen me getting ready to study again as I’ve just started a distance learning foundation course in human resources to help me gain some new skills working within hubby’s company. It’s a challenge that I hadn’t anticipated at the very start of the year – the idea and enrolment in the course has all happened rather quickly but I’m looking forward to the challenge and getting to grips with learning something new. Unfortunately our internet went down an hour before the live welcome class was due to start – thankfully my in-laws live down the road and were happy for me to come over to use their internet and kept the girls amused so I could focus on the live class too – win-win!

This week's word of the week is "study" - The Friday Focus 05/02/16 - Little Hearts, Big Love

After five years of rather optimistically calling a room at one end of our house “the study” despite it being mostly filled with boxes and junk – we now finally have a desk in there and space to sit and work! The room is still quite a long way from being finished and the current desk is a temporary one but it’s a start! For now, the computer is still in the living room, but the desk in the study has a lot more space which makes it easier for hubby to work from home in the evenings and means that hopefully we’ll see a little more of him during the busier times.

Things I have loved this week:

  • Having some one-to-one time with Jessica at another friend’s pirate-themed birthday party.
  • Sitting down and having an afternoon doing some beading with the girls.

  • Both the girls piling into my lap and demanding kisses and cuddles.
  • Having a lovely walk outdoors, stopping to watch the ducks on the duck pond and then finishing off with ice-cream and sprinkles in an ice-cream parlour.

  • Hubby putting the Rose Petal Cottage playhouse together again and seeing the girls having lots of fun playing in it.

  • A movie afternoon snuggling up together and watching Frozen for the umpteenth time.
  • Going on the Stick Man trail at Wendover Woods.

  • Coffee and a catch-up with a friend from church.

    1. Thank you Rachel, I’m looking forward to learning something new and gaining some new skills 🙂

    1. Thanks Karen – the girls love the cottage too, it’s been a while since we last got it out! 🙂

  1. Best of luck with your studies. I understand the challenge of balancing it with home life and blogging, but it’s definitely worth it, so hope you find it to be, too. Sounds a lovely week for you all. We’ve a movie night planned tonight and the kids can’t wait. The film has yet to be decided, though I’d be happy with Frozen – it’d make a nice change from Star Wars or the TMNT! Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. Thanks Jocelyn, am trying to make sure I’m organised as I think that will be the key to juggling it all! Hope you enjoy your movie night tonight 🙂

    1. Thanks Dean – it is lovely to have that room – it’s not quite there yet but hopefully will be soon! Good luck with getting yours 🙂

  2. Hi Louise, I take my hat off to you for taking the time to study. I signed up for a free Udemy course for beginners (in photography), I have yet to even look at it! It will be nice for you to have your husband closer to home more often.

I love the way you dress your girls and spending some quality time with them must be nice. And what can be better than being clambered on by your children for kisses and cuddle? Nothing, except when they are bigger than you! My daughter still has her moments.

    xx

    1. Thanks Debbie – hopefully I’ll manage to get organised and juggle it all! Those little dresses are gorgeous – they were presents from Grandma and I love them. Lovely that your daughter still clambers on you for kisses and cuddles! 🙂

  3. Another fantastic week! I love the Rose cottage, I remember the photos from last time and it always looks like the girls are having so much fun!
I am glad you had fun on the Stickman trail – we loved ours!
My husband has just started a new course which means he is out until 9pm two nights a week and it’s hard but it will be worth it. I enjoyed doing an online journalism course last year and I want to look for a course to do this summer – I love learning

    1. Thanks Jenni – it has been lovely having the Rose Petal cottage out again. I can imagine that it must be hard with your hubby being home late two nights a week but as you say, it will be worth it in the end x

  4. Wow you have been busy and taking on a new course must be a challenge. Be fab in the end 🙂 looks like a lovely week getting out and keeping busy. I bet snuggles with the girls was lovely. Love a film afternoon xx #wotw

    1. Thanks Sarah – film afternoons are always good aren’t they, especially when it’s been a busy week! 🙂

  5. I do miss having a desk for the computer but to be honest Little E’s room had a desk in there before she was born and I never used it. Perhaps I need a bigger downstairs so I can fit a desk in lol. It looks like you have a lovely week with the girls. I hope your studying goes well x

    1. Thanks Jane – our computer is in the living room at the moment which works well – it will be a bit strange when it moves into a different room! 🙂

  6. Sorry, I pressed return to soon!

And if setting up your office means you can see more of Hubby then it’s certainly worth it!
Looks like you had some lovely quality time with Jessica, and it’s so important to get to spend quality time with each of the girls isn’t it – for you and for them.
We were hoping to go to Wendover at the weekend but each time we try and weather is absolutely horrid – a bit of rain is one thing, torrential downpours another when you’re stuck in the woods! Hopefully this weekend we’ll make it.

  7. Little G was looking at your photos as I was reading this and she now wants to go to the stickman trail- best get my skates on before it goes! Thank you so much for joining in with #HappyDaysLinky x
