Friday Focus 04/07/2025 – Exciting

We’ve had various exciting things happening this week with various summer term activities at school, transition days and show performances and rehearsals.

The word 'exciting' in jade bubble writing

Sophie had a busy, but fun weekend – taking part in a sponsored walk in aid of Halo Children’s Foundation, enjoying a lovely playdate with one of her new friends from her dance school and taking part in the BYT group 1 show, Dexter and Winter’s Detective Agency.

Sophie and Thomas are both moving up to new schools in September and had their transition sessions this week. Sophie thoroughly enjoyed her day at secondary school and came home having made a couple of new friends. Thomas had a lovely afternoon at junior school.

Sophie had her last ever primary school sports day and did well, coming second in two of her races and third in the other. She’s been enjoying rehearsals for her Year 6 production and helping to make props and is excited about performing this next week.

Thomas was excited about going to London Zoo on a school trip this week and I enjoyed being able to go along with him as a parent helper.

I had auditions for Calendar Girls: The Musical on Monday and am thrilled that I’ve been cast as Annie. We started rehearsals on Wednesday and I’m really excited about being part of this show.

We’ve also booked our summer trip to Luxembourg and a day out at Disneyland Paris so that’s exciting too.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Sophie at sports day; Sophie and Thomas doing a sponsored walk; Thomas holding his Ducking 2 certificate; a starry night sky; Sophie and Thomas hugging; the Calendar Girls vocal score; a pygmy hippo at London Zoo - "#365daysofgratitude 2025 - Week 27"

  • Day 178 – I am for getting to watch Sophie take part in her last primary school sports day.

  • Day 179 – I am grateful to everyone who sponsored Sophie for her 5k walk and helped her raise £185 for Halo Children’s Foundation. Thank you all so much. She enjoyed taking part and Thomas had fun joining in too.

  • Day 180 – I am grateful that Thomas had a really good swimming lesson and got his Duckling 2 badge and certificate.

  • Day 181 – I am grateful for slightly cooler night air.

  • Day 182 – I am grateful that Sophie and Thomas both enjoyed their transition days in their new schools.

  • Day 183 – I am grateful for the start of rehearsals for Calendar Girls and for having been cast as Annie.

  • Day 184 – I am grateful for a lovely day out at London Zoo.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Sitting in the sunshine and having some quiet time with Jessica.

  • Going into the office instead of working from home at the start of the week as it was much cooler there (and nice to see my colleagues too).
