Both my girls enjoy getting creative with paint and paper. Whilst I love to encourage their creativity, I don’t enjoy clearing up the mess afterwards! Making the most of the warm sunny weather and taking the paint and paper outside is a great way to have fun and be creative without having to worry too much about clearing up a lot of mess afterwards!
One of the easiest ways to do this is to just spread a big sheet of lining paper on the ground and pour some coloured paint into a tray. Jessica and Sophie enjoyed standing in the paint and then walking around on the paper to make coloured footprints. The only slight difficulty was that the paint was very slippery. Whilst Jessica didn’t have any problems with stepping in and out of the tray and then walking around, Sophie found it much more difficult to do so without slipping over and making bottom prints instead of footprints!
They both had fun walking up and down on the paper, looking at the footprints they left behind. The finished result is mostly just a big rainbow coloured splodge (especially at the bottom near the paint tray). There are a few distinct footprints here and there though. I love seeing the difference between Jessica’s and Sophie’s. I also love the tiny little toeprints that I can see at the far end of the paper.
It was quick and easy to set up and kept the girls amused for a while. Best of all, cleaning up afterwards was very easy. We just made sure we had the paddling pool set up and ready beforehand. The girls had fun in the paddling pool and got clean in the process – win-win!

What fun!! It’s obvious how much they enjoyed it! Great idea – especially on a lovely day with the paddling pool out! Love the joy on their faces. Thanks for sharing #KidsCorner.
Thanks Sara – they had a wonderful time 🙂
Look at their faces you can tell they LOVED it. What a fab idea. You are always so creative! #kidscorner
Thank you! It was a lot of fun and love that it was so easy to clean up afterwards too! 🙂
Lots of fun and creativity. That’s a fab sensory experience too and the splash in the pool after does look like they are having a great time.

Thanks Karen – I think Sophie in particular loved the sensory aspect – she was quite fascinated by the slippery coloured stuff between her toes! 🙂
What a great idea! I definitely have to try that now the weather is so warm! #KidsCorner
Thank you – hope you have fun doing it if you do give it a go 🙂
Aww! What a lovely activity! Good idea about washing off in the paddling pool x
Thanks Kim – the paddling pool makes cleaning up so much easier! 🙂

Thank you Sophie – we enjoyed doing it 🙂
ooh never thought of doing this outside, only ever done it in the kitchen! Great tip 😀 thank you – will save the scrubbing and the flooring – double win! They looked like they had a brilliant time #Kidscorner xx
I’ve never tried footprint painting indoors (other than when I painted my babies’ feet for their baby books but that was before they were mobile!) – think the potential mess would make me quite nervous! The great thing about outside is that they can have fun without me getting stressed out 🙂
Oh wow this looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to try it with Boo – I am sure she is going to love it!
Thanks Jenni – am sure Boo would love it! 🙂
Look at their faces, the absolutely having fun. Olivia loves this too and always end up painting her face. lol. Such a great activity for summer. xx
