40acts: Week 4

I’m now more than halfway through this year’s 40acts challenge. After last week’s successful week with completing two red challenges, this week has been more 40acts ‘lite’. I’ve completed each of the acts for this week but have focused predominantly on ‘green’ challenges.

A green foodbank wheelie bin - "40acts: Week 4"

The challenges for this week have been:

  • Act 17: BOGOF – buy one, give one free
  • Act 18: Apologise – saying “I’m sorry”
  • Act 19: In touch – thinking of prisoners and victims of domestic abuse
  • Act 20: Stranger things could happen – starting up a conversation with someone new
  • Act 21: Do be silly – sharing a joke or doing something funny for Red Nose Day
  • Act 22: Give it time – giving your time and talents

The first of this week’s acts lined up nicely with my grocery shopping trip. I made sure I added a few extra items for our local foodbank. This is something I don’t think to do often enough and I really should try and get into the habit of doing this more regularly. Our local foodbank keeps an updated list on their website of the things they currently need which I find very useful.

There was no traffic-light system on Act 18 as saying sorry is not always easy to do. It was my hubby I owed an apology to for being rather grumpy that morning (ah the joys of sleep-deprivation). The next two acts saw me focusing on the easier green option for the day. This involved taking a moment to pray for prisoners and victims of domestic abuse and talking to someone new via social media. Interacting with strangers is something that is very much part of being a blogger though. Every time I come across a new blog and leave a comment, I’m doing just that. I have loved ‘meeting’ and getting to know so many people over the last year.

Act 21 involved me sharing the following cheesy joke on social media:

  1. What do you call cheese that doesn’t belong to you?
  2. Nacho cheese

Act 22 could have applied a couple of times this week as I had been giving time to help produce a poster for a forthcoming church event. Yesterday, my giving my time mostly focused on stopping and enjoying some cuddles on the sofa with my girls whilst watching Twirlywoos together though.

Have you been taking part in 40acts? I’d love to hear how you’ve been getting on.

  1. *chuckles* Nacho cheese! *chuckles some more* Love your update posts – they should all include a joke! Thanks so much for linking up at #sharethejoy this week x

  2. ooh Louise, I’ve slacked and not opened all of my emails so have missed a few of the challenges, will have to catch up and double up on some days!
I’m finding the challenge very useful at making me consciously think about my actions and about those around me.

    1. Missing challenges is easily done and you can always catch up later – I love the challenge for the same reason – makes you much more aware of how much impact little actions can have.

  3. Really enjoying hearing all about your challenges hon. Good on you for recognising the need to apologise and actually doing it, because it can be so difficult to do!

    1. Thank you – I’m not always very good at recognising that I need to do it so it was good to have the prompt to do so!
