#365daysofgratitude 2019 – Week 50

Since 2016, I have taken part in a daily gratitude challenge, sharing a photo of one thing I am thankful for each day on Instagram. There have been days when finding little things to be grateful for has been very easy to do and others when it has been incredibly hard. Life as a bereaved parent is quite a rollercoaster at times. There have been many moments when I don’t feel grateful for anything at all – just broken and bruised. However, looking for those little moments has helped me even on the darkest of days. Hard though it may be at times, I have always managed to find something to be thankful for.

My eldest daughter Jessica was an inspiration to me throughout her short life. She had so much strength and such a wonderful zest for life. Her godmother described her once as a “joy carrier” and it was the perfect description for her. She was a little ray of sunshine, full of smiles and gave joy to all who knew her. I am, and will always be, grateful to be her mummy. She taught me to enjoy the little moments and to make the most of everyday because tomorrow is never promised. I continue with this challenge in honour of my beautiful brave girl.

Me with my dad on my 30th birthday; Sophie writing out her Christmas cards; a star made from twigs and an angel made from leaves and evergreens; Sophie, Thomas and Jessica dressed as Christmas elves at the table together with a log cabin background; a polling card with "USE YOUR VOTE" spelled out in Scrabble letters across it; Thomas wrapped up warm in his buggy; Thomas wearing a Harry Potter sleepsuit - "#365daysofgratitude 2019 - Week 50"

Day 342 – I am grateful for the beautiful memories I have of my wonderful dad. It is ten years today since he died. Love and miss him so very much but it comforts me a little to think that he is looking after Jessica until we can all be together again.

Day 343 – I am grateful that Sophie is able to write all her Christmas cards herself and all I have to do is provide the cards.

Day 344 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out enjoying a Christmas meal and some crafting.

Day 345 – I am grateful for Photoshop.

Day 346 – I am grateful for the right to vote. Make sure you use yours today!

Day 347 – I am grateful for a post office within walking distance and no queue when I got there!

Day 348 – I am grateful that the little Harry Potter sleepsuit that Thomas wore to my birthday party back in May still just about fits him! It was perfect for going to Jessica’s best friends’ Harry Potter-themed birthday party today. Lovely to see lots of her friends today but my goodness they all look so big next to Sophie and I can’t quite imagine Jessica at that age. I do know that she would have loved being with her friends and sister though and watching her little brother dancing away to the music. And it was lovely to be able to talk about her there too.

    1. It’s such a lovely challenge to do. I’ll be doing it again next year if you are tempted to join in 🙂
