The Friday Focus 15/05/15

This last week has been a busy but enjoyable one. Last Saturday was my birthday and the celebrations felt like they lasted all weekend thanks to various different events that were planned. Mid-week found me in a reflective and thankful mood thanks to another milestone moment – four years since the hospital appointment where we were told there was almost no hope of Jessica being suitable for surgery. Being here today and seeing how well Jessica is doing is such a huge blessing given just how bleak things seemed back then.

Out and About:

My birthday weekend kicked off with a trip to Legoland with one of my close friends and her daughter who is between Jessica and Sophie in age. Jessica was so excited about the prospect of a day at Legoland with A and it was so adorable to see her running up to her friend and giving her a big hug when we met up outside the entrance. The three girls had such a wonderful time together and enjoyed going on the rides, seeing the pirate show (which unfortunately had to be stopped halfway through due to technical issues) and the puppet show and running around the children’s play area. My friend and I enjoyed having a proper catch-up and it was just one of those perfect days that happen every so often.

I love going home to see my twin and celebrating our birthday together. We had a birthday barbecue at her house with various family members and friends popping over and it was just a lovely way to spend the day. We then finished off my birthday weekend by going out for a Chinese meal with hubby’s parents on Sunday – an all-you-can-eat buffet which is my favourite – lots of crispy duck pancakes, yum!

We took advantage of having some lovely sunshiney days this week by finding a local bluebell wood to explore. Jessica and Sophie both enjoyed their walk through the woods and wandering about amongst the bluebells.

Fun at home:
The girls have enjoyed being able to play out in the garden more and I have managed to do a little more clearing out in the garden. My lovely father-in-law came over to chop down some of the bigger shrubs/small trees and the area around my roses is now fairly clear. We haven’t quite managed to clear the overgrowth in the corner and this has been put on hold for a while after discovering a birds nest there – I’ll focus my efforts on clearing out the rest of the garden for the next few weeks instead.

Time for me:

One of the other mums from the toddler group organised a fundraising pamper day and hubby worked from home in the morning so I could leave Sophie with him (Jessica being at preschool) and go and have a lovely head and shoulder massage. Blissful!
On the blog:

I shared a guest post over on Holistic Mama’s blog about me and my twin as part of her Celebrating Sisters series.

My happiest moment:
Watching my girls playing together so happily in the garden and then ‘helping’ me dig up the weeds.

Next week I would like to:
Enjoy more time out and about in the sunshine with my beautiful babies.

  12. Happy belated Birthday 🙂 – looks like you had a great time. Love the bluebell picture, especially considering everything you went through with Jessica. I really want to take Monkey to Lego land but I was worried be maybe too young after reading your post I will reconsider :). Love the idea of putting in a bit about the blog too – I may steal that if its okay? It will motivate me to do more as working four days a week it gets a bit neglected when I am hectic… Hope you have a great week next week. #HappyDays xx
