From the mouths of babes #99

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week.  I loved reading Le Coin de Mel’s post about her family’s Christmassy day out at Willows Farm and Beanie’s comment about the elf school not looking like elf school.  I also enjoyed reading about Molly’s attempts to get her Puppy and Kitty to settle down and go to sleep shared by Conversations with Hank.

Next week will be the 100th #ftmob link-up and I will be marking this with a little giveaway for one of my lucky linkers.  I’ll be sharing more details next week but all posts linked up this week and to next week’s linky (which will be open all over the Christmas period) will be entered in to the giveaway (provided, of course, they fit with the theme of this linky!)

From the mouths of babes #99 - Musings from Jessica

Jessica has been making me smile with the things she has said this week. Here are some of my favourite Jessica-isms that I’ve heard lately:

While drawing a picture of her friend E:

“E has plaits in her hair. She looks like a goat but she is beautiful.”

I think we need to work on those compliments…!

At the end of the Strictly results show:

“Awww, they’re having a cuddle!”

On her friends:

“My friends are special because they are very kind and they share and you get to cuddle when you say goodbye.”

On the things Mummy needs to teach her:

Me: “Stay out of the kitchen, girls. I’m using the iron and it’s very hot and I don’t want you to get burnt.”

J: “Can we use the iron?”

Me: “No, irons are for grown-ups to use.”

J: “When I am a grown-up, I want to be able to use the iron. Can I use it when I am a bigger girl?”

Me: “Hopefully, yes”

J: “Yes, and you will teach me how.”

Me: “Of course. I’ll teach you lots of things as you get bigger.”

J: (thoughtfully) “Yes, you need to teach me things because I don’t know how to do them and I might struggle.”

On becoming a grown-up:

J: “Mummy, it takes a long time to become a grown-up.”

Me: “Yes darling, it does.”

J: “Yes Mummy, because you have to have lots of sleeps in between your birthdays.”

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. Bless her! She definitely needs to work on her compliments. Being compared to a goat is not the best! Love the fact she wants to learn how to use an iron though. Let’s check on that one in 10 years’ time, it will probably be a distant memory, he he!

    1. Lol, yes I suspect her desire to learn how to iron won’t last as long as perhaps I would like it to! 🙂
