From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!
A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved Mummyshire’s post about trying to translate Little Mister’s upset over having “duck bubbles” and the list of things that Someone’s Mum’s son has said recently – “Tyran-enormous rex” and “hookie tookie” were my favourites from the list.
I’d also like to say a huge well done to #ftmob regular Inside Martyn’s Thoughts for making the MADs shortlist in the Best Schooldays Blog category – very well deserved and good luck for the finals!
I had a moment of concern last week that Jessica had picked up a word that I’d prefer she hadn’t. She was sitting on the potty at the time.
Jessica: “Mummy, where is my ship?”
Me: (immediately thinking she meant a similar sounding word): “Your ship?”
Jessica: “Yes. Did it go in the big toilet?”
Me: “Ship.” (emphasising the ‘p’ sound) “As in big boat?”
Jessica: “No, Mummy. Ship.”
Me: “Jessica, what do you mean?” (preparing for an explanation of there being certain words that little girls do not use)
Jessica: “My ship. It fell into the potty.”
Suddenly the penny dropped. She’d had a chip in her hand the previous day when she’d gone to sit on the potty and had accidentally dropped it in.
Me: “Ah yes, your chip. I flushed it down the big toilet because it was all dirty.”
Phew. Crisis averted. (And no, we don’t normally eat our lunch whilst on the potty)
If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.
Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!
Hahaha this is funny. I’m glad you’re not eating lunch while sitting on the potty and also more glad that she said “ship”, the word in my head is played “t” at the end. lol
Yes, that was the word I was thinking of too! 🙂
hahaha I love this Louise and can imagine you trying to work out exactly what she meant ! haha thank goodness is was chip and not something else haha 🙂
Thanks Caroline – I was very relieved that it was “chip” and not something else! 🙂
Hahaha!!! Briliant!
Bless her, always a disaster when your ‘ship’ falls down the toilet. Chips are precious, you must take them to the toilet with you in case someone else tries to eat it whilst you’re away! A girl after my own heart 😉
Lovely Louise 🙂
xx

Thanks Gemma – chips are indeed precious! She was quite annoyed that she’d dropped that one! 🙂
Tee hee! Such a perfect time to ask where her ‘ship’ had gone! x
Indeed! She wasn’t to know that it would completely confuse Mummy 🙂
So cute! Ch is much harder than sh. My little one was not so happy this week. She’s still adorable though
She is still adorable – and it doesn’t always have to be a happy post. The “ch” sound is certainly a harder one – but the timing of it did make for a very confusing moment!
Haha I thought that was going to be a very different sh word..she is so cute..I love it how you added that you don’t normally eat on the potty lol #ftmob
Lol, I felt the need to preempt any potentially judgey comments! I thought it was going to be a different word too! 🙂
Aw bless her it’s those naughty words they have a super human strength for holding on to! Glad it in fact was a chip! X
I was very relieved! 🙂
Ha bless her. It’s hard sometime translating. We had many where’s my food whilst on the potty or after the potty #ftmob
We do too – why they want to eat there is beyond me! 🙂
Haha! My sister always used to say ‘chip’ as ‘ship’ too – ‘fish & ships’! Thanks for hosting! #ftmob
“Fish and ships” sounds much more interesting! 🙂
