Friday Focus 27/03/2026 – Whirlwind

This week has been a whirlwind of activity. We’ve had most of our usual weekly activities plus some social events, a photoshoot for Sophie, rehearsals for the Passion play and two performances for Sophie dancing in the Spring dance showcase at school.

Thomas’s school hosted a coffee morning for SEND parents last Friday and I had a lovely chat with another parent whose child is in the same class as Thomas. On Saturday, we had a busy day starting with Thomas’s drama lesson in the morning and then Sophie had a photoshoot with some of her dance friends in the afternoon. My husband and I enjoyed a rare night out together in the evening meeting up with a couple of friends from our university days.

Thomas had his swimming lesson on Sunday before church and I had a rehearsal for the Passion play after church. We had a reasonably chilled out evening at home other than Sophie turning her room upside-down looking for some craft kits leaving it looking like a whirlwind had been through it. Thankfully it didn’t take too long to tidy up again!

Sophie had her dance show at school this week, performing in two group numbers and doing a tap solo which she danced beautifully. It’s always a joy to watch her on stage and see the joy that she gets from dancing.

This week has also seen a whirlwind of emotions with the grief bursts that come at this time of year as we get closer to the anniversary of Jessica’s death.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Chocolate rice crispie cakes; me and my husband; primroses in the garden; a Numberblock-eating robot; Thomas playing with bingo balls; Sophie doing a tap solo; a bridge over a weir - "#365daysofgratitude 2026 - Week 12"

  • Day 79 – I am grateful for a fun evening helping out at Girls’ Brigade.

  • Day 80 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out with my husband catching up with a couple of our university friends.

  • Day 81 – I am grateful for the pretty primroses that have appeared in the garden.

  • Day 82 – I am grateful that Sophie had fun making this fab robot that ‘eats’ up Thomas’s Mathlink cubes.

  • Day 83 – I am grateful that Thomas has been having fun happily sorting out all the numbers in his bingo game.

  • Day 84 – I am grateful for getting to see Sophie dance in her school Spring dance showcase – she danced beautifully in her group numbers and in her tap solo. (Photo taken from Sophie’s dance school’s 2025 dance show)

  • Day 85 – I am grateful for some time outdoors and putting aside the mental load for a while.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Having a nice long walk with Thomas and spotting lots of numbers along the way.

  • Time at the park after school.

Thomas bouncing on a trampoline at the park

  • Being able to enjoy watching Sophie’s dance show without any mobile phones obstructing the view as we weren’t allowed to take photos or videos.

  1. Your week does sound like a whirlwind! How lovely to have a chat with another SEND parent and a night out with your husband!
Sending love and hugs. Thinking of you at this sad time. x

  2. I love your heading image – those little whirlwinds are too cute.

I am sorry for the grief 🙁 I know it all too well and when those dates approach it becomes so much harder!

  3. To me, your weeks always sound like a whirlwind, I don’t know how you could be any busier. I do remember when I had my church family that I loved all the activity at Easter. We’d even do the walk from the local square to the church. (not wanting to get political but we’d also get some abuse from passers by, probably the same ones who are now complaining about the lack of Christianity in the Country now and putting flags up everywhere.) Our church was all inclusive which was really nice. I’m glad you managed a date night and I’ll be thinking of Jessica.

  4. What a lovely but busy week you have had! It’s good that you and your husband had some time together to do something fun.
I love how colourful your photos always are, and reading about Thomas’s number fun and Sophie’s dancing and drama.
Thinking of you all this time of year x

  5. It does sound like a whirlwind. Sophie always looks so happy dancing, it must be such a joy for you to watch her. Thomas is full of beans in that jumping photo too.
Glad you had a night out with your husband.
Pretty primroses and tasty cornflakes nests. I was thinking of making some too for my guys.
When tragic dates come closer, our hearts are gripped with grief anew. Big big hugs.
