I’ve enjoyed stepping back from the blog again this week and focusing on spending time with my family which has made for a very enjoyable week. It’s been all about the little moments – wrapping books for the girls’ book advent calendar and then enjoying opening a book each day and sitting reading Christmassy stories together; sitting on the floor and playing with the Little People toys or just letting the girls climb all over me and enjoy the enthusiastic cuddles that they give. To be given big kisses by Sophie and be told “luz you millions and billions” or for Jessica to say that I’m her “favourite Mummy ever!” is the best feeling in the world and it’s been lovely to stop and enjoy those moments without giving in too much to all the other distractions that are always competing for my attention.
We might not have got the decorations up just yet, but we’ve started getting in the mood for the festive season with the first Christmas party of the year and a festive photo shoot for this year’s Christmas card photo (which I’ll be sharing on the blog next week). Hubby thought I was a bit mad trying to take photos in the garden on a very windy Sunday afternoon and I only got a few minutes to get the shots I wanted before the girls objected but it was worth it in the end!
Things I have loved this week:
- Seeing Jessica and Sophie having a wonderful time at the Families of Ocean Ward Christmas party and getting very excited about meeting Father Christmas and Olaf. I love their matching Christmas dresses which were a present from Nanny.
- Catching up with some lovely friends from our university days.
- My poem “We Need A Bit Less Christmas” bemoaning Christmas starting way too early being mentioned in the Britmums Poetry and Prose roundup.
- Getting a little more Christmas shopping done and seeing how fascinated the girls were by all the Christmas lights in town.
- Listening to Jessica singing the Christmas songs she has been learning at preschool.
- Grandma coming back from the RHS Wisley craft fair with some more gorgeous outfits for the girls.
- The lovely comments that my guest post for #coolmumclub: Meet the Members on Mum Muddling Through’s blog has received – reading comments like “visiting the blog always makes me feel like I’m stepping into a warm and loving home” and to be described as “a very giving blogger” really made my day yesterday and reminded me yet again of just how lovely the blogging community is and how lucky I am to be part of it. Thank you all for those lovely words.
Oh, the girls looks so adorable at that party! Lovely to hear that they had a great time, and that you’ve had such an enjoyable week. I’ve been stepping back, too, and it’s definitely made for some lovely moments with the kids x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
Thank you Jocelyn – glad you’ve been enjoying stepping back and enjoying time with your family too 🙂
Sounds a great week, and so important to feel the balance is right. The girls look adorable in their party dresses too X #wotw
Thank you Stephanie – getting the balance right can be a challenge sometimes, has been nice to take time away from the blogosphere 🙂
Aww! What a lovely week! The girls are just adorable….
Thank you Kim 🙂
Some of my favourite times are when I just hang out on the floor with my little guy too! I wish I would remember to do it more often, but most of the time the day is over before I even know it’s begun 🙂
Thank you Robyn – I know that feeling very well – sometimes the day does seem to go by far too quickly!
Those little dresses are totally adorable Louise. Your week sounds just perfect. Well done on being listed by Brit mums for your poem. Well deserved hun x #happydays
Thank you Catie – it was a lovely week 🙂
Glad to hear the girls enjoyed their party, their little dresses are so cute 🙂 I haven’t gotten around to putting my decorations up yet either, I was starting to think I was the only one lol! #HappyDays
Debbie
Thanks Debbie – no you’re definitely not the only one – mine still aren’t up now! 🙂
Your girls look soooo beautiful in their outfits!! What lovely piccys. It sounds like stepping back has done some good! I feel like I have but mainly for being just so busy. I guess just time of year. Hope not long until the tree is up and well done on your poem!! xx #happydays
Thank you Sarah – it is good to step back and I know what you mean about it being so busy this time of year – hard to keep up with real life and blogging at the moment!
Hi Louise, it’s nice to read about the enjoyable time you’ve been having. I love your little girls matching tartan dresses, perfect for a Christmas party. Your children are at that perfect age for enjoying Christmas and all it’s magic. The magic never dies, my older children humour me, but It’s not quite as special as when they were little. I hope next week is just as enjoyable and that Jessica continues to practice those Christmas songs!
xx
Thank you Debbie – definitely enjoying the magic whilst they’re both still little enough for it to be at its best 🙂
Ah so glad you had a good week. I love hearing Baby sing, too cute 🙂 Luz you millions and billions is soooo cute! x
Thanks Aby – definitely can’t get enough of being told “luz you millions and billions” 🙂
Glad to hear you have enjoyed your week with the girls. I love that you are enjoying taking time away from your blog, I have struggled with mine and it makes me feel less guilty lol x
Thanks Jane – it is hard to keep up with it this time of year isn’t it – there’s so much else going on. Hope you’re feeling less guilty for stepping away now.
Sounds like it’s been a nice week. A balance is really important. #WoTW x
Thanks Karen – it has been nice to get that balance recently 🙂
I love those times when you just forget everything that needs to be done for a few moments and just play with the children; making time for hugs and cuddles is so very important.
It sounds like you’ve had a gorgeous week and your girls look absolutely gorgeous.
Have a lovely week, Louise, and you deserve all those lovely comments, You’re a special lady
xx
Thank you so much Tracey – those comments really made my day and it has been lovely to step back and enjoy quality time with the girls too. Hope you and the Little Shires have had a lovely week x
I adore those red dresses! I had one similar as a child! Thank you so much for joining in with #HappyDaysLinky x
