The Bubblewrap Dress

Back in my uni days, I was definitely a bit of a party girl, especially if it involved fancy dress – and I loved coming up with quirky ideas. At one of our club nights at the student union, I thought it would be fun to go wearing a dress made from bubble wrap. I can’t quite remember what exactly triggered the idea but hubby (in his pre-hubby days) thought it would be hilarious too and headed off to buy some red bubble wrap. Once armed with a large roll of bubble wrap, I sat down with some pattern pieces, sticky tape and scissors and a short while later, there was the dress all ready to go! I decided on a pinafore dress, not being quite brave (or extrovert) enough to want to go out in a complete see-through dress so had a T-shirt and shorts underneath.

It certainly attracted a lot of attention! I had a lot of people coming up to me (thankfully mostly people I knew) wanting to ‘pop’ my dress and so by the end of the evening, pretty much all of the dress apart from across my chest (the one area that was definitely out of bounds!) was popped.

Thanks to A Day In This Dad’s Life for posting the photo that triggered this memory for me! It was definitely one of the most fun nights out I had at uni.
