Friday Focus 31/10/2025 – Performances

It’s been another full-on week focused on performances with the last three shows for Calendar Girls taking place last weekend and then a busy week for Sophie performing in the first of two dance festivals this half-term.

Calendar Girls went so well. I absolutely loved every minute of being on stage in the show and we had standing ovations at several shows which was absolutely amazing. My husband, mum, two sisters and Sophie all came to see the Saturday matinee and loved it. I’m sad that it’s over, but thankfully a busy week with Sophie’s birthday and dance festival has helped reduce the post-show blues as I’ve been too busy to dwell on them for long.

Sophie had a lovely birthday on Monday and enjoyed an afternoon going bowling with her new high school friends followed by pizza and a movie at our house. This year’s birthday cake was a dance-themed one with fondant tap and ballet shoes.

From Tuesday onwards, she’s been busy dancing at Maidenhead Festival and has had a successful week, adding a few more medals to her collection. She’s loved seeing her dance friends from various dance schools who compete in the same section as her and I love that they’re all so supportive of each other. It’s a busy half-term for her with two festivals taking place (the second starts this weekend).

Thomas has enjoyed spending time with my husband who has thankfully been able to work from home this week to allow me to juggle things with the dance festival.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Nibbles on a table; the cast and crew of Calendar Girls; Sophie's dance-themed birthday cake; Sophie opening her birthday cards; Sophie wearing her orange tap costume holding a 3rd place medal; Thomas on a spider swing at the Iver Environment Centre; Sophie wearing her pink modern costume holding a 3rd place medal - "#365daysofgratitude 2025 - Week 44"

  • Day 297 – I am grateful for a post-show social.

  • Day 298 – I am grateful for all these wonderful people who all helped make the magic happen both on and off stage this week. It has been such a joy being part of Calendar Girls and Annie was such a wonderful role to have had the privilege to play. I have loved every minute of it all. Thank you everyone for being such an amazing part of it all.

  • Day 300 – I am grateful for 12 years of my beautiful Sophie and a lovely day of birthday celebrations.

  • Day 301 – I am grateful for a good start to the dance festival year with two bronze medals today for Sophie’s tap solo and lyrical duet. Sad to be saying goodbye to her beautiful tap solo and her gorgeous orange tap costume but looking forward to seeing her new routine at the next festival!

  • Day 302 – I am grateful that Sophie and Thomas enjoyed their drop-off day at Iver Environment Centre

  • Day 303 – I am grateful for a 3rd place medal for Sophie in her modern solo.

Just a quick note to everyone who asked about Jo and Leila’s family in Jamaica, I’ve heard from the ladies and they said no-one was hurt but they only got power back on Saturday and are still waiting for running water. They have also had the roof of their home damaged.

  5. Congratulations to both you and Sophie on your successful performances, and belated happy birthday to her. Love the cake.
