This week has seen a first for Sophie as she qualified for the All England regional finals at two separate dance festivals this week in her musical theatre solo and her musical theatre duet.

She competes at a lot of festivals, but most of them aren’t AED-qualifying festivals which can be harder for a small dance school to get into. Both festivals this week have been new ones for her dance school and being qualifying festivals, the standard is often very high. Placing in a medal position doesn’t necessarily mean qualifying – Sophie has previously placed at an AED-qualifying festival but not with a high enough score to qualify – and conversely, dancers can also qualify without placing in a medal position if the standard overall is high enough.
Sophie was thrilled to come second in her musical theatre solo (only the second time out for this solo) with a qualifying mark. She was the first dancer from her dance school to qualify for All England so that made it extra-special too.

She had two musical theatre duet sections in two different festivals on Tuesday and it was a bit of a mad dash to get from one to the other, but worth it when she and her friend qualified for All England with their duet at the second festival. Very proud of them both.
I’ve also been proud of Thomas this week too for coping so well with having to come along to Sophie’s festivals. Thankfully we have had a couple of days off to do fun things as well to balance it all out!
What I’ve been grateful for this week:

- Day 44 – I am grateful for homemade cheese scones.
- Day 46 – I am grateful that my voice held out for tonight’s concert given how croaky it has been today.
- Day 47 – I am grateful for a beautiful performance from Sophie in her new musical theatre solo today. She came second in her section with an honours mark and qualified for All England Dance for the first time! So proud! Thank you to her fab dance teachers for their hard work on this too. So grateful for all the support and encouragement.
- Day 48 – I am grateful for a 3rd place for musical theatre duet today with honours and qualifying for All England Dance – well done girls!
- Day 49 – I am grateful for a fun afternoon enjoying some outdoor time on the nets at Go Ape.
- Day 50 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out with am-dram friends.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Sophie’s joy at getting to have a sleepover at a friend’s house for the first time.
- Getting to see Sophie doing both her musical theatre duets again. She had a second duet with another dancer but only got to perform this once last year as her original partner wasn’t always available for festivals. She now has a new partner for this duet and hopefully will get to dance it more often.
- Pancakes for breakfast and tea on Shrove Tuesday.

- Packing a flask of hot chocolate and marshmallows to enjoy while out and about.
