Friday Focus 19/12/2025 – Ready

With just under a week to go, I think I’m just about ready for Christmas now. The Christmas cards are all posted, I’ve finished the Christmas shopping and most of the presents are wrapped. I’ve been enjoying a slightly slower pace this week and having a bit more time for Christmas prep as all the children’s after-school activities finished last week. It’s been good to have a quieter week activities-wise, especially with my husband currently away in Japan.

Sophie quite enjoyed going into school late for the last day as she had a panto performance in the morning. She has her last two performances before Christmas today and then four more between Christmas and New Year.

Thomas has been having a lovely creative week. One of his current favourite activities is creating his own comic books, all based on his Colorball characters, and he has a whole series planned out. He’s also been creating his own Colorballs music book, complete with Colorball-themed musical notation, which I was very impressed by. I love that he has his own little imaginary world of Colorball characters and the joy that this gives him.

We’ve got some Christmas activities planned for the next few days and Sophie and Thomas are both counting down the days. Wishing you all the best for Christmas – I hope that it will be gentle with you if you are struggling with the festive season and that you will all be able to find moments of peace and joy here and there.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Cheese scones cooling on a wire rack; Thomas's comic book; Thomas enjoying soft play; cows in a field; Thomas's music in front of his keyboard; a Christmas tree at a restaurant; Sophie next to the banner for 'Sleeping Beauty' - #365daysofgratitude 2025 week 51

  • Day 346 – I am grateful for time to bake for tomorrow’s coffee morning.

  • Day 347 – I am grateful for Thomas’s wonderful imagination. Loving his latest comic book.

  • Day 348 – I am grateful for a fun afternoon at a soft play party.

  • Day 349 – I am grateful for some time switching off from all the things that need to be done this time of year and making space to get out for a walk.

  • Day 350 – I am grateful for Thomas’s creativity and enthusiasm when he comes up with his own ideas. This morning he’s been playing the piano and writing down his music. I love that he’s come up with his own Colorball-based musical notation with each Colorball representing a note. Black notes are shown as two Colorballs with a dot to indicate that you play the note in the middle. Special Colorballs next to a Colorball note mean you play it an octave higher or lower and numbers mean a note is held for longer.

  • Day 351 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out at the WOS Christmas meal.

  • Day 352 – I am grateful for a lovely last day of term for Sophie, performing in panto in the morning before heading back to school for the afternoon and a meal out with her school friends after school finished.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Thomas taking part in the Santa dash at school.

  • The mini Christmas tree in the office decorated with coloured reels of spark tape.

  • A fun session for Thomas’s last swimming lesson before Christmas with pool noodle “reindeer” and a giant float “sleigh”.

  • Sophie receiving a creative thinker certificate for Science at the end-of-term celebration assembly.

  • Singing “I Wish You Christmas” as a solo in the weekday carol service.
