We’ve had some fun moments this week with the last couple of days of our trip to Luxembourg and Sophie and Thomas taking part in an outdoor activity week after getting home. They’ve both had lots of fun doing their various activities and it’s been quite nice for me too to have a bit of space to catch up on work and the post-holiday laundry mountain!
We took Sophie and Thomas swimming at Les Thérmes on our last full day in Luxembourg. Thomas was very happy that he was old enough for the water slides and had lots of fun going down those (as did Sophie!). We also had fun at the Luxembourg Science Center the next morning before driving through Belgium and France for our last night’s stay in Valenciennes. We found a huge buffet restaurant nearby and the kids had lots of fun choosing their dinner (especially with all the options for dessert!). There was quite an interesting range of available options at the buffet and I got to try frog’s legs for the first time (and yes they really do taste just like chicken).
Since getting home, Sophie and Thomas have had lots of fun taking part in Wild Week at Iver Environment Centre enjoying all the various outdoor activities. They’ve done den building, fire lighting, baked apple muffins, toasted marshmallows, made tortilla wrap pizzas, had water fights, made candles, played in the playground and have had a wonderful time. I’m hugely grateful that Thomas has been able to have one-to-one support to join in with the week and has had such a wonderful time. He did have to miss some of the activities on Wednesday as he had a speech and language assessment but going out for a milkshake and cake afterwards made up for it!
I have managed to take some time out for myself too and have some fun. I had a lovely morning at the Chiltern Open Air Museum seeing the Longest Yarn Britain at War exhibition, which is an exhibition of 60 knitted scenes to mark 80 years since VE Day. I also had a lovely catch-up with a couple of friends yesterday.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 213 – I am grateful for free public transport.
- Day 214 – I am grateful for some hands-on science at Luxembourg Science Center.
- Day 215 – I am grateful for being back home and enjoying a nice cup of tea!
- Day 216 – I am grateful for a bit of me time seeing the Longest Yarn exhibition at Chiltern Open Air Museum.
- Day 217 – I am grateful for sleep.
- Day 218 – I am grateful for time for a milkshake and cake with my beautiful boy.
- Day 219 – I am grateful for the support in place this week that has helped ensure that Thomas has been able to enjoy taking part in Wild Week at Iver Environment Centre.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Taking a detour on our way through Belgium after spotting a sign for the Canal du Centre and “ses ascenseurs”. One of our holidays pre-children was a “canal wonders” road trip which included a visit to the Anderton Boat Lift and the Falkirk Wheel, so we were quite interested at getting to see a boat lift. It turned out there were four boat lifts in the area plus the Strépy-Thieu boat lift, which is one of the biggest boat lifts in the world. Sadly we were too late in the day for a boat trip through the lift but it’s on the must-visit list for next year!
- Having time for a quick game of table football and a quick swim in the hotel pool in Valenciennes before checking out.
- Sophie’s delight at trying out some heatless curlers and having wavy hair.
Joining in with Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.
I’m sure it’s nice to be back home after a lovely time away. Your children have Summer memories to last a lifetime. It’s interesting I always hear people compare the taste of frogs legs to chicken. I won’t try it so I have to take your word for it, lol. Nice that you also got some ‘you’ time and time to catch up with friends.
Les Thérmes sounds fun. I bet Thomas was pleased to join in the slides. I’m sure they will both be looking forward to it next year. Their Wild week looks like brilliant fun too. I’d love to see the knitted VE day scenes. I had a quick look and I can see it’s touring, so I’ll try and make it to a nearby place. I would totally geek out on the boat lift. Amazing! You have had such a fun week. I quite understand why sleep is something you appreciate and need at the moment. Hope next week is fun too.
It sounds like you’ve all had a brilliant week. I’m glad Thomas was tall enough for the slides. I bet he had so much fun.
We live quite close to Anderton but have never been it’s been on my list of places to visit for ages.
Sophie’s hair looks lovely, those heatless curlers worked really well.
Those knitted scenes are so good, I keep seeing post box toppers around our town, and they make me smile. I hope you enjoyed taking time out for yourself. It’s nice to catch up with friends.
I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
It does sound like the kids have been having fantastic fun! That is great that Thomas could go on the water slides and you have to love a buffet type restaurant. Wild Week sounds fab for the kids!
The knitted scenes are brilliant! I hope you have caught up on the washing! x
Sounds like some fun activities have been done this week. I’ve never been to Chiltern open air museum, despite having lived just around the corner for 3 years! I now need to go and google boat lifts – sound intriguing
What a fun time the kids had!! I love your pink mummy mug – so gorgeous!
Your holiday sounds lovely and the kids obviously had a fab time, I can imagine Thomas being very excited at being able to go down the water slides. The Wild Week sounds excellent and brilliant that Thomas got one to one. Sophie looks so grown up with her wavy hair!
it sounds like a wonderful week for all. I especially like the knitting exhibition. I love looking at the yarn bombing, post box toppers around town and wonder why they’ve chosen that particular theme
What a fun time you have all had! Hopefully you’ll have caught up with the washing by now. I love Sophie with curly hair, how pretty. It reminds me of the ringlets my mum used to do for me when I was little.
