From the mouths of babes #96

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week.  Lily made me giggle with her version of “wonky” in Our Cherry Tree’s post and I loved the beautiful moment shared by White Camellias with her son giving advice to his little sister.

Jessica and Sophie looking at the iPad together - "From the mouths of babes #96 - Sibling moments"

I love listening to the conversations that my girls have together.  Jessica is very much the big sister – giving instructions and correcting Sophie when she gets things wrong.  Sophie is very definite in her views and opinions and can get quite cross if they are questioned. It makes for some funny moments between the two of them.  Here are some of my favourite moments overheard recently:

On wanting to go to work with Daddy:

Jessica: “You can’t go to work with Daddy. You are not a grown-up!”

Sophie: “I am a grown-up!”

Jessica: “No you are three. Grown-ups aren’t three. They are old!”

Protesting over Daddy putting them to bed instead of Mummy:

Jessica: “I want mummy to put me to bed.”

Sophie: “I want mummy too!”

Hubby: “Daddy is putting you to bed tonight.”

Jessica: “I want my mummy and my daddy”

Sophie: “No! It’s my mummy. That’s your daddy.”

Jessica: “No, Sophie. It’s not like dollies. Dollies belong to someone. Mummies are for both of us.”

On Mummy’s usual mood first thing in the morning:

Sunday is our lazy morning as it’s the one morning we don’t need to leave the house early. If the girls wake too early, hubby will occasionally hand them the iPad in the hope that they will happily sit on one of their beds (we have a family bedroom) watching a video so we can doze a little longer.  They’re both pretty good at staying in the room, waiting for us to get up – for a little while at least! This particular morning though, they were arguing over the iPad and Jessica had had enough.

Jessica: “Sophie, go to Mummy!”

Sophie: “Nooo! Mummy is grumpy!”

Ah yes, I have to confess I’m not always at my sunniest at 6.30am

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. I’m not at my sunniest most mornings either. Its so nice when they get to the age where you can just give them something to do and catch a few more minutes of sleep on the weekend

  2. Mornings are not my finest hour, either, even when you’re dozing you always have one ear on what they’re saying!
I also love how they define you & daddy – they say possession is 9/10th ownership, hahah!!
    xx

    1. That’s true – you only half-sleep once you know the kids are awake! I did love that I was Sophie’s mummy and daddy belonged to Jessica! x

  3. Awww bless them, these two are hilarious, and quite frankly, I love Jessica’s logic re. parents vs. dollies. This girl rocks!
On the other hand, how dare she say that grown-ups are old????
