From the mouths of babes #136 – Actually, Mummy…

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. Conversations with Hank shared a thought-provoking conversation about magic and when you stop believing in it.

Sophie standing against a wall with a cheeky grin on her face - "From the mouths of babes #136 - Actually, Mummy..."

It was Jessica’s birthday last week. She enjoyed opening her presents after school and having party food for tea. She did get a bit impatient waiting for Daddy to come home from work to help her celebrate though:

“Daddy won’t be here for ages,” she complained to me. “Daddy is the latest man in the whole world wide!”

Even at six, she’s learned that there is normal time and there is Daddy time!

Sophie has been focusing on making sure everyone says please and thank you lately. We were rushing out the door to pick up Jessica one day last week and I asked her to go and get her wellies at put them on. She didn’t move, so I asked her again.

“Mummy, I haven’t heard the magic word yet!”

It seems I’m not always so good at remembering to say ‘please’ myself!

Jessica was back at Girls’ Brigade last Friday. They have different coloured polo shirts for each section. The Explorers wear red polo shirts. One of Jessica’s friends from Explorers has now moved up to Junior section.

“Look girls,” I said when we spotted Jessica’s friend just before heading into Brigades. “G is wearing a blue polo shirt.”

“Actually Mummy,” Sophie replied, “I think it’s teal.”

I was a bit taken aback by that one, but that’s a much more accurate description of the colour of the Juniors’ polo shirts!

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. Louise,

    Some gems this week!
“The whole world wide” is a turn of phrase that I just might borrow.
It’s amazing what knowledge children pick up from who-knows-where. You could have a colour consultant in the making.

    1. Thank you. I quite like that one too. Seriously impressed by Sophie’s colour recognition skills though! 🙂

  2. Awww bless her, she knows about Daddy time already! Have you told her the story of your labour, waiting for Daddy to finish work hahaha!
