From the mouths of babes #114 – I’ll think about it…

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last time. I loved Hank’s request to sit and have a cup of tea with his mom in Conversations by Hank and Le Coin de Mel’s conversation with her daughter Beanie about childbirth.

We had a hospital appointment the other week for Jessica’s routine eye check. Our route home from the hospital happens to pass a drive-thru McDonalds and the girls were hoping I’d let them have “an M” on the way home. My response to that request in the morning was “I’ll think about it.”

A few moments later, I stopped by the breakfast table, lost in my thoughts planning the day ahead.

“What are you doing, Mummy?” Jessica asked.

“Thinking,” I replied.

“What are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking about what to wear today.”

“Well,” Jessica said, “can’t you think about whether we can have a Happy Meal later instead?”

They did get their Happy Meal on the way home in the end!

I have to confess that since becoming the mother of two girls, I have a little bit of sympathy for Miss Hannigan in the musical Annie. I can’t help thinking that she probably wasn’t really that bad – just overwhelmed and exhausted from looking after all those little girls. No doubt she would have been much nicer if someone had just given her the day off and a spa voucher! I have to confess that I have been known to belt out a rendition of Little Girls on the more challenging days. The other day though, I heard Sophie singing it to herself. Clearly, I have been channelling my inner Miss Hannigan a little too often!

It was on one of those challenging days that Sophie turned around to me with a look of glee and said “Mummy, we’re driving you monkers!”

Yes darling, you were indeed driving me bonkers!

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!
