Friday Focus 28/12/17 – On the other side of the surgery

This morning finds us on the other side of Jessica’s heart surgery – feeling very relieved that it seems to have gone well and that Jessica’s first night post-op has been a relatively smooth one. She is still sedated and ventilated at the moment but the team are hoping to wake her up later. I cannot get over her colour – she is just so pink!

Surgery - this week's word of the week

We had such a lovely Christmas at home before coming back into hospital. We spent Christmas Day itself at hubby’s parents and then had a nice quiet Boxing Day at home with the girls just getting to enjoy playing with all their presents before we were back into hospital on 27th. It was hard having to pop the Christmas bubble so soon and come back in.

A smiley Jessica sitting on the theatre trolley waiting to go in for her op

Thankfully this time surgery was able to go ahead. Jessica was an absolute superstar with all the pre-op tests. She was smiling and chatting away on her trolley ride to theatre and went off to sleep happily. We had a long wait while she was in theatre – it was 7.5 hours before the surgeon came to tell us that the surgery had gone well and another 3 hours before we were able to go and see her on PICU.

Hopefully her recovery this time will be much smoother than it has been in the past. We are so very thankful to be the other side of the surgery with it having gone well though. The love, support and prayers that have been surrounding us over the last few days have been amazing – we are so thankful to have so much support. We still have quite a road ahead of us as Jessica recovers but her getting through her surgery has really been the best Christmas present I could have asked for.
