A wintry woodland walk at Hughenden Manor

For our last family day out of 2016, we headed over to Hughenden Manor. Having enjoyed the knights and dragons trail there in the summer, we were looking forward to trying the fairytale trail. As we walked the short distance from the car park towards the information hut, we passed several chalk boards with passages and clues relating to different fairy tales.… Read more

Hunting for Advent boxes at Hinton Ampner

After catching up with my family in Hampshire on Boxing Day, it’s starting to become a tradition to have a day out in the local area. Last year we enjoyed a couple of days out at Uppark and Fort Nelson. This year we decided to visit Hinton Ampner and do their family Christmas trail together.… Read more

The beautiful view from the entrance of Chiltern Open Air Museum in the winter sunshine

A traditional Christmas at Chiltern Open Air Museum

Chiltern Open Air Museum is one of our favourite places for a day out – as well as the various old buildings which the girls can explore, there is plenty of space for them to run around in; woods to wander through and sheep and the horses to say hello too.  Other than the Christmas weekend though, it is closed over the winter.… Read more

Outdoor fun at Charney Manor

Every eighteen months or so, our church organises a weekend away. It’s a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, time to reflect on our faith and to build friendship. For the girls, it was mostly about having time to do crafts and to have fun outdoors and getting to be with our extended church family.… Read more

Do you want to build a scarecrow?

Turning a walk in the park into a fairy tale adventure

Langley Park is one of our favourite outdoor spaces – the Temple Gardens are full of magic and adventure if you only know how to find it. Add two little girls – one dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and the other dressed as a pirate – and a walk in the park becomes a fairy tale adventure to find the Big Bad Wolf.… Read more

The Friday Focus 05/08/16 – Going on adventures

This week has been all about getting out and about and having adventures.  We’ve had a day out at Bekonscot model village, hunted for fairies and elves in the woods, climbed trees and had a fairytale walk to find the Big Bad Wolf (who thankfully didn’t make an appearance!)  I love how a spark of imagination can result in a day out that’s full of magic – and imagination has certainly been in abundant supply this week!… Read more
