Reading books and doing jigsaw puzzles are two of Jessica’s favourite things to do. Our Parragon Book Buddy review book for August – Spot A Lot Vehicles Storybook and Jigsaw – meant that she could combine the two. It arrived with perfect timing just at the point that Jessica was finishing her second potty training sticker chart and made the perfect “potty prize” for completing it!
The book and jigsaw come in a sturdy cardboard box with a carry handle making it easy for little ones to carry it around. I liked the velco tabs on the box flap which made it easy to open and close (and stay closed – always a good thing with lots of jigsaw pieces!)
The story running throughout the book involves a delivery driver whose truck has broken down and his attempts to get a parcel across town, travelling by motorbike, tractor, hot air balloon, boat and other forms of transport, counting from 1 to 10 along the journey. Each page has little challenges to spot the number of vehicles named, plus a couple of other items to spot on each page. The busy scenes are reminiscent of a Where’s Wally book and Jessica needed a little help to spot quite a few of the items although enjoyed looking for them all.
The 36-piece jigsaw was double-sided – showing the same scene in colour and in black and white (which could then be coloured in). It was just the right level of difficulty for Jessica – she was able to do it by herself with just a little assistance here and there. The pieces were quite sturdy and slotted together well – once the jigsaw was complete, it wasn’t too difficult to just flip it over to reveal the black and white image.
This book would be ideal for any child that loves cars, books and puzzles and is available at Easons, Matalan, TK Maxx and The Works.
Disclaimer: We were sent a copy of the book and jigsaw set to review through being part of Parragon Books’ Book Buddies. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
