From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!
A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved DIY Daddy’s list of the funny things that his twins have said – R’s comment that she could drive the car but didn’t know how to start it made me smile. I also loved Picking Up Toys’ children’s names for things – especially “Farties”, “bedbloom” and “hungly”.
I’ve been trying to capture all of Sophie’s adorable toddlerisms lately before she learns to pronounce words correctly. Some of my favourites are:
“My-dool” – Michael (what she calls Daddy when she is copying Mummy)
“dam-ma” – Grandma
“dan-dad” – Grandad
“duddle” – cuddle
“ribbit” – frog
“tick-tock” – clock
“dar-mees” – pyjamas
“a-lish-oo” – delicious
“Jess-sha” – Jessica
“da-doo” – thank you
She’s recently started joining in more with bedtime prayers –she’s been saying “amen” at the end for a long time but we now also get “da-doo for Mummy, da-doo for dam-ma…” which I love hearing.
If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.
This week I’m linking up Jessica’s first show which she performed for us last week. Looking forward to hearing what your little ones have been saying.
Aaaw hehe her words are so cute. I can imagine saying her copying you My-dool. Duddles sounds really sweet too- i love that.
Da-doo for hosting this fab linky! xx 😉
Lol, thank you Melody – always lovely to have you link up! 🙂
Aww! Love ‘duddle’ and ‘da-doo’! My toddler also often calls clocks ‘tick tocks’. It’s preferable to when she says ‘clock’, actually, as she often fails to say the ‘l’! #ftmob
Lol, yes I can see how tick-tock would be preferable! 🙂
Aww those are cute, I’ve also been putting together a list of cute mispronouciations so I’ll link to #FTMOB once it’s finished. My tiddler uses tick tock instead of clock too!
Thank you – will look forward to your list once it’s finished! 🙂
So sweet! I love this stage of language development – you ALMOST don’t want them to improve because what they say is so cute! I love a-lish-oo.
Thanks Maddy – I am enjoying all the little mispronunciations while they last – they are so adorable 🙂
My daughter used to say Tick Tock instead of clock! Your post brought back some cute memories! Thanks 🙂
Angela xx
I think tick tock is quite a popular one with little ones – it does sound so much more fun than ‘clock’ 🙂
