Listening to my children chattering away as they play with their toys can be such an eye-opener at times – it’s often in these moments that I realise what little phrases I use almost without thinking – “because I said so!” being one of them. Sometimes though it’s the endearing phrases that get picked up – for instance hearing Jessica tenderly say to Sophie “did you have a nice sleep darling?” when she wakes from a nap.
From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!
A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. Mummascribbles post sharing more funnies from her toddler made me chuckle – especially her son’s comment about wanting water and it going through his winky (complete with demonstration!). I also loved Mother Inferior’s journey into the mind of a 7 year old – especially her daughter’s comment about voting for the kitty party (Liberal DemoCATS in case you were wondering!)
Jessica has been coming out with a few phrases that have made me giggle this week. As you can imagine with her being a blogger’s child, she is quite used to having lots of photos taken. We took a lot of photos during our recent days out in London as we visited all 50 of the Shaun in the City sculptures. Jessica was very good at posing with each sheep in turn as we took a photo but with just a couple of sheep left to find, it was clear she was getting a little tired of all the photos:
“Oh, not again!” she said, rolling her eyes, as hubby asked her to look at the camera.
It’s a phrase she obviously liked as we’ve heard it several times since in relation to other requests that happen regularly – such as having to wipe her nose, have her nappy changed or help tidy her toys up.
Like most small children, she’s quite blunt with her observations and opinions:
“You are old, Mummy!” she told me firmly the other day. Thanks, Jessica!
And finally, I am sure I am not alone at using the quick sniff test to check which child requires an immediate nappy change. Jessica will sometimes tell me but more often than not, I need to ask:
“Jessica, have you done a poo?”
“I haven’t done a poo. Can you smell my bottom, Mummy?”
Delightful.
If you’d like to share your posts about something your children have said (or sung!), then please add the badge code below and link up with me. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.
Looking forward to hearing what your little ones have been saying.
Ha ha, love her! Don’t you feel great when your little ones tell you you are old.. as for smelling bottoms. we do that a lot around here! xxx
Oh – the “mommy is old” comments are brutal! 🙁 I’ve gotten those before. Excuse me while mommy goes & cries!!!!
