What happens when a whole host of fairy tale characters go online? Does Cinderella still need the assistance of her Fairy Godmother even when technology can help her go to the ball? With all the wonders that the internet can bring, what can possibly go wrong?
We were recently sent a copy of the children’s book Once Upon A Time… Online by David Bedford and Rosie Reeves which mixes up some of the traditional fairy tales and adds a modern twist.… Read more
Those moments when our children start crying or having a tantrum can be challenging ones. We are often encouraged to end our children’s tears as quickly as possible – through fixing the problem, or distracting them, or finding other techniques to help stop them crying. Kate Orson’s book Tears Heal, focuses on allowing our children to cry and express their feelings.… Read more
My girls love books – especially ones with bright colourful illustrations, animal characters and stories being told in rhyme. We were recently sent a copy of Harty Hedgehog and his BuZZy Friends, one of the books in the BuZZy Friends series of books, which ticked all of those boxes.
The BuZZy friends books were originally created by Michael Walter to amuse his granddaughter. The stories help to guide children through various experiences that they might encounter, and include the “BuZZy Code” – a rhyme which helps to encourage children to be kind and thoughtful.… Read more
Reading books and Frozen – two things that my girls love. We’ve introduced a few other Disney films to the mix but Frozen has certainly remained the firm favourite (with Toy Story being a close contender for the top spot at times). When I found out that this month’s Book Buddies books from Parragon Books were Frozen and Jungle Book, I knew that I would have two very happy little girls on my hands – and I wasn’t wrong!… Read more
It was a nice surprise this month to find that our Book Buddy parcel from Parragon Books contained items that were more for me than the girls – two Disney-themed colouring books plus an extra Easter craft to make, that looked a little too tricky for little hands.
The Disney Princess and Frozen Art Therapy Colouring Books are beautiful looking books filled with pages and pages of patterns and designs inspired by Disney princesses or Frozen characters. The Frozen colouring book is full of snowflake patterns, with outlines of Elsa, Anne, Olaf and Sven included on several pages whereas the other book features a range of different Disney princesses – including Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and Belle – and patterns inspired by each of the different princesses stories.… Read more
Today sees the launch of Zookeeper Zoe, a clever eye check storybook from Boots Opticians. Zookeeper Zoe tells the story of a little girl who loves animals and wants to be a zookeeper. One day her parents take her to the zoo only to find it is closed as the zookeeper can’t manage the needs of the animals by himself. Can Zoe help out and save the day?… Read more
Is it a storybook? Is it a colouring book? Is it a puzzle book? My Giant Fairy Tale Activity Book, our latest Book Buddy book from Parragon Books, is a combination of all three – featuring four well-known fairy tales, with various activities to help bring the story to life and encourage learning and creativity.… Read more
I have a confession to make. When reading books, I frequently get a little bored in the middle and flick ahead to find out how the book ends before deciding whether the ending might be worth the journey to get there. For me, there are two signs of a good book.… Read more
Trying to keep the girls occupied on cold, grey and rainy January days when going outside is just not inviting can be quite a challenge at times. Books and imaginative play activities are always a good way of keeping them both amused and the Fire Station Activity Book and Playset from Parragon Books seemed like the perfect way to pass some time on a rainy afternoon.… Read more
Both my girls love books and having stories read to them. We have a few personalised books which are amongst Jessica’s favourites – she loves seeing the cartoonised versions of herself in the stories and they are often requested by her at bedtime. The latest book in her collection of personalised books is one from Amazing Pages – the story of Jessica and the Shy Mermaid, which featured a photo of Jessica in the illustrations instead of a cartoon version.… Read more
