From the mouths of babes #109 – Conversations with Sophie

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved Susan K. Mann’s list of the funny things her children have been saying recently – especially her daughter’s perspective on the leaves falling from the trees.

I love the close bond that Jessica and Sophie have with each other. It is clear that Sophie looks up to her big sister and adores her. This certainly came across in one of her little chats recently:

Sophie: (getting ready for ballet) “There’s lots of ballet, lots of Girls’ Brigade and lots of gool [school]”

Me (laughing): “Yes, lots of school.”

Sophie: “There’s Jekka’s gool, and my gool, and Jekka’s ballet, and my ballet, and Jekka’s Girls’ Brigade and my Girls’ Brigade!”

Me: “Your Girls’ Brigade? When do you go to Girls’ Brigade.”

Sophie: “When I grow up. I want to be Jekka. When I am Jekka, I will go to Girls’ Brigade with G [Jessica’s friend]”

Sophie has started to sing some of the songs she’s learned in her French class at home. The alphabet song that she’s learned is a marching song, so starts with us marching on the spot “Left, right, left, right etc.” or “Gauche, droite, gauche, droite” etc. when we’re doing it in French. Sophie’s pronunciation is not quite there yet – she pronounces “droite” as “dwat” and the “d” sound sometimes sounds a little more like a “t” sound which makes it sound rather rude! Fingers crossed her pronunciation improves before she tries singing it in public!

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

I think they might do French classes at our local junior school. Sophie goes to a toddler French class locally where they teach French through learning songs. It’s a lovely class and she really enjoys it 🙂
