Jessica and Sophie eating ice lollies in the garden

The Friday Focus 16/09/16 – One to one moments

We’re starting to adjust now to the change in routine that has come with Jessica being in school full-time. It has felt very strange not having my big girl at home for a large chunk of the day but I am really enjoying those one to one moments that I can now have with Sophie. This is the first time that Sophie has had me so completely to herself.  When Jessica was at preschool, the morning would pass in a bit of a blur. I don’t think I ever really made the most of that time with Sophie. Now we have the full day, we are going out on adventures together, having fun in the garden or just sitting and having snuggles on the sofa. I am becoming more aware of the little person that Sophie is by herself, rather than seeing my girls as a little duo. It feels like I am getting to know her in a whole new way as a result, which is magical.

"Moments" - this week's word of the week

I love seeing how excited Sophie is when it comes to pick-up time though – the way she peers through the school gate, waiting eagerly for it to be opened; the way she runs to the classroom door and the way she and Jessica give each other the biggest cuddle when they are reunited.  It seems that being apart has just strengthened that beautiful bond between them and to see their delight at being together again once Jessica is home is wonderful.

Things I have loved this week:

  • Jessica being awarded a “WOW of the week” at school for trying hard with everything.

Jessica's "WOW of the week" certificate

  • Joining in with a community fundraising day and having fun building a scarecrow with hubby and the girls.

Jessica stuffing straw into the top half of a scarecrow

  • Winning the Inspire award in the #tribalchat blog awards.

  • Having a picnic in the garden with Sophie and her toys.
  • Sitting in the garden and eating ice lollies.
  • Being able to get the paddling pool out and watching the girls having fun in it.

  • Hunting for geocaches.
  • Going for a walk with Sophie and finding a “witch’s cottage” in the woods.

Aw I can just see little Sophie all excited to see Jessica after a school day! I bet it is quite nice to get the one on one time as the second child doesn’t always get that as much. Sounds like Jess has had a great week and you have slotted in a lot of fun around it. I;m just looking at the rain out of the window so thankful you got the pool out!! Have a good weekend xx #wotw

Getting the pool out feels like it was a long time ago now – the weather hasn’t been quite so wonderful this week! 🙂

We have the same word of the week! You have such a good list of moments. It’s funny when the younger one come out of the shadow when the older child starts school. It happens again at the end of primary school. Your scarecrow making does sound fun. One day we’ll have to make one. Is it for a scarecrow trail? Congrats on all your awards this week. A fabulous start to the weekend. #wotw

Thanks Cheryl – I’m not sure what happened to all the scarecrows after the scarecrow making day – I think some of them might have been used on the farm though 🙂

Sounds like a great week. It has been lovely to have the bonus sunshine too. My eldest has just started school and it’s definitely a lot less rushed at home with just me and my baby.

Everything changes when a child starts school. Having proper time now with Sophie must be lovely and it is interesting seeing the dynamics change. Sounds like everyone is happy to see each other after school. #Wotw

It certainly does Karen – I hadn’t thought about how much more Sophie’s personality would develop through having this one-to-one time with me – it is so lovely to see 🙂

Oh congratulations on your blog award, how fabulous and well deserved! I am also enjoying the one to one moments with my youngest, but I do miss seeing the little duo together. The little one is like a lost soul without her sister – albeit a very chatty lost soul 😉
