From the mouths of babes #7

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Perhaps they have just started babbling for the first time, or said their first definite word. It could be something cute, or funny, or incredibly embarrassing – whatever it is, I’d love to hear all about it.

Thank you so much to everyone who linked up last week – so lovely to read all the things you’re your little ones have been saying – getting a glimpse into the world of their imaginations as well as reading about some very funny toddler-isms. Tiddler Tales’ daughter picking up some Scouse with her new word of ”boooooooccchhhhjjjkkkkk” made me chuckle as did Life with Baby Kicks’ son’s attachment to Mummy’s bra (referred to as ‘Mummy’s boobies’) and demanding to have it in his cot at bedtime.

I love the way that little ones mispronounce words and it is quite bittersweet when they start saying them correctly as some of those mispronunciations are just adorable. Sometimes, however, they can sound a little dodgy – for example one of Jessica’s current ones is “rocket” – except she says “fock-it” instead. I’m hoping this particular mispronunciation is short-lived!

One of her latest new words is “woodpecker” which is rather adorably pronounced “whoop-pepper” and she likes to have “serie-oh and mouk” for breakfast (cereal and milk).

I love listening to her chatter away as she plays with her toys or when we are off to the park. It seems we go everywhere with a whole host of CBeebies characters in tow if the imaginary conversations that Jessica has are anything to go by. Dipsy and Laa-Laa, Bing, Pando, Sula and Flop and Baby Jake are the current favourites. In this respect, she definitely takes after me – I vividly remember car journeys where I would chatter away to all the Care Bears who I imagined were in the car with us or driving alongside.

If you’d like to share your posts about something your children have said (or sung!), then please add the badge code below and link up with me. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Look forward to hearing what your little ones have been saying.

I can’t think why you don’t like her pronunciation of rocket 😉 hehe she sounds a lot like Monkey and Bing, Flop, Pando, Sula, Charlie and Coco are regukalarly talked about in our house too, along with postman pad, jess, ted and ben of course 🙂 xx

Love the rocket one! And the whoop pecker is very cute. You’ve just reminded me that my middle son used to call them ‘hair peckers’ for reasons that completely escape me! I just love mispronunciations!

That rocket mispronunciation could get a bit dodgy!! Funnily enough, Ross was listening to ‘Break Even’ by the Script and, thanks to Grace, it will forever be known as the ‘pee sex’ song – because when he sings ‘I’m falling to pieces’ that is what she thought he said!! Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo 🙂 x

What a lovely idea for a linky! Kids really do come out with the funniest things. Although my youngest has a thing about saying she hates everyone right now and this is getting a little embarassing now when she says it to my friends and strang ers out on the street! #pocolo
